Going Live with the New Employee Experience in Global HR
Last year, we here on the Infor People Solutions team released a new employee experience for our Global HR product.
If you’re not familiar with the new experience, you can read our blog post on how to enable it for testing here:
Before You Start
In preparation for going live with the new experience, there are a few things you’ll want to make sure you’ve covered before you move forward:
- All relevant configurations have been applied to the new pages
- You’ve completed customizing your Landing Page
- You have communicated the upcoming changes to your employees (or otherwise have a communications plan in place)
Configuration Changes
Once you’ve decided to go live with the new experience, there are just a few configurations you need to update. For these changes, you’ll want to fire up the Configuration Console (or your Rich Client). We’ll walk through the steps in detail below, but you’ll just need to change three values illustrated below:
Changing the Menu
To make the New Employee Experience the default experience for all of your users currently using the old experience, simply perform the steps listed below. Note that while we mention the Configuration Console, you can also make these changes via the Rich Client as well.
- As an administrator, switch to the Configuration Console webapp.
- Navigate to Configuration > Console and search for the EmployeeSelfService webapp.
- After selecting EmployeeSelfService, click Edit
- Set navigation bar to XiEmployeeMenu
- Submit your changes
Now when employees log in to the system, they will see the new menu items that, when followed, will lead them to the new pages.
Congratulations — you’re halfway there!
Changing the Home Page
The change above updated the menu, but you still need to update the home page the employee will see when they first log in. If you don’t update this, your old landing page will still contain links that lead to the old pages. To update your landing page:
- As an administrator, switch to the Configuration Console webapp
- Navigate to Configuration > Console and search for the EmployeeSelfService webapp.
- After selecting EmployeeSelfService, click Edit
- Make the following two changes:
- Set ‘home page is’ to XiEmployeeStartPage
- Set ‘custom home page’ to EmployeeLiteWelcome.html*
- Submit your changes
* Note step assumes you are going live with one of our new Custom Landing Pages. If you aren’t, you can omit this line. If you are using a Custom Landing Page, make sure this file name matches the file name of the Custom Landing Page you’ve elected to use.
That’s it! Your employee role is now set up with its new home page and its new menu, which will lead employees to all the new pages available with the New Employee Experience.
FAQs
Why do I sometimes see the old screens and sometimes see the new screens?
There could be a number of reasons you are seeing different versions of a screen, and it means that you have a page or widget configured somewhere that is still pointing to the old version of that screen.
- Did you customize the new menu to point to some old pages?
- Are you using a home page with links pointing the old pages?
- Do you have Mingle widgets that reference the old pages?
- Are employees using Mingle bookmarks that may contain links to the old pages?
What if an employee has a Mingle bookmark saved?
We can’t unilaterally update any bookmarks a user may have elected to create for themselves. If your organization uses Mingle bookmarks, you may want to remind users to update their bookmarks to point to the new pages.
